Do you prefer speed, comfort, durability or style?
Feel the Need for Speed? Road bike all the way! Please note, when looking at road bikes and the different pricing levels, you're paying for things like frame material (carbon, alloy, steel are the most common), fork material (same as previous), and your 'groupset' (the components that shift your gears). The more you ride, the faster you want to go, the better your shifters need to be! Why? These more expensive shifters are lighter, more durable, stay in adjustment longer, and shift much smoother than cheaper and more basic shifters. Similar to a sports car with a manual transmission, these expensive shifters make for quick, precise, lightning fast shifting!
Want to Ride in Comfort? Flat bar road bikes, city bikes and hybrid bikes focus more on a heads-up riding (instead of a tucked in aero position) which is great for navigating traffic and riding safely when maneuverability is paramount to flat out speed.
Need a Tank? For riders who want to ride in comfort but need something stronger may opt for a mountain bike, but throw some slicks or semi-slicks on for commuting, then change to off-road specific tyres for the weekend.
Need to Look Good and Ride? With cycling becoming more popular, you are now seeing bikes coming in many different colours, shapes and styles. Fixie bikes are popular with riders wanting fashionable simplicity. Retro style bikes are functionable, fashionable fun that lets stylish people be green, while getting them from point-A to point-B. Ladies bikes with their handy baskets and rear racks make for stylish and fun rides to the shops, to work and school.
